Insurance Tender Successful

In partnership with 25 councils, MWLASS has faciitated shared insurance procurement while supporting regional differences. About $930,000 in annual savings for ratepayers across Hawke’s Bay are generated.

The partnership that was developed between the 25 councils has led to more than $3 million worth of savings for ratepayers across Hawke’s Bay, The Bay of Plenty, the Horizons Region and the West Coast. The tender process was undertaken with assistance from advisers at Grant Thornton.

The tenders were evaluated on a region by region basis. Officers from each of the Hawke’s Bay councils were involved in the evaluation of the tenders. The savings for Hawke’s Bay alone were $930,000 for the 2015/16 insurance programme. This is a great example of the opportunities that working together provides for the councils.

AON New Zealand will be providing Insurance Brokerage and Risk Management services to MW LASS, BOP LASS and the West Coast Group of Councils, with JLT providing these services to the HBLASS Councils.

These savings add to the ongoing savings that have been achieved from fuel savings collaboration, joint software purchasing and the $170,000 saving achieved with the GIS project. HBLASS is sure that even more savings can be achieved through collaborative procurement and alignment of contracting programs.
